Welcome Letter to Parents and Students

August 7, 2013

Dear Parent,

Welcome to a new semester at Walton High School!  I am excited to have the chance to teach your child this semester in CCGPS Honors Analytic Geometry.  Attached you will find a copy of the course syllabus, class policy sheet, and a student information sheet.  Please take a moment to read through each of these so that you may familiarize yourself with the curriculum and class expectations.

CCGPS Honors Analytic Geometry is a rigorous, fast-paced course, intended to prepare students for the rigor and formality of college-level courses.  This course will place more emphasis on critical thinking and analysis of mathematical concepts.  For many students, it is more challenging than previous mathematics courses they have taken.  Because of this, it is imperative that we all work together to make sure your child is taking all necessary measures to perform to his/her potential.

Numerous online resources are available to both you and your child.  These include:
  • The Walton Geometry course blog -  http://waltonhigh.typepad.com/hag.
  • Information specific to my classes -  http://westhonorsgeometry.blogspot.com/.  Students can choose to subscribe to this blog, which will allow them to make postings with any questions or concerns.
  • Class text notification system –  Students (and parents) who wish to join this will be notified via text of any pertinent information, changes to the schedule, or other information.  To join,  please text the phrase @westhongeo to 678-905-8082.

If at any time you have questions or concerns regarding this class, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  E-mail is the preferred method of contact, as I can often reply much more quickly to any concerns or questions you may have.

After you have read the attached information and completed the student information sheet, please sign the attached form and have your child return it to me no later than Wednesday, August 14th.   I look forward to working together with you and your child towards his/her math achievement!

Sincerely,

Jennifer West
